The purpose of Prevention Practices is to fund effective, research based strategies and innovative, promising approaches as identified by the community's local comprehensive plan. The plan was implemented in order to reduce risk factors and promote protective factors for all Lane County children and their families.
The Department's annual budget is a mix of state and federal revenue, as well as grant funds. Most of these funds flow back into the community to fund prevention programs. As a direct result of these funds, the Department of Children and Families has been able to almost double the resources now available to prevention programs in Lane County.

Improved outcomes for children, youth, and families through prevention practices include:
-
Reduced child maltreatment rates: abuse, neglect, and/or re-abuse rates
-
Effective support for children during out of home placement or judicial review
-
Child care quality: meets national or other quality indicators
-
Positive attitude towards school
-
Improved community-based supports and accountability
-
Improved family problem-solving skills
