The Lane County Fair Board is a commission created by state statute. The Board is charged with management and operation of a 55-acre complex involving a regional convention facility, major indoor sports facilities, planetarium and science center and regional celebration space. This activity venue has over 600 events a year and plays host to over one million people.
The complex is the largest destination point between Portland and San Francisco, including the state fairgrounds, Autzen Stadium and the regional airport. Operations are financed out of event receipts and rental income. As per the County Commission policy, there is no General Fund support allocated to the fairgrounds operation. Capital reinvestment and infrastructure support is provided by taxes on hotel and motel rooms focused on supporting the hospitality industry.
