Youth Services - Volunteer Student Credit

Students at Youth Services

Many of the volunteers at Youth Services are students who are receiving college credit for their work with our youth.

Through the University of Oregon, we are a junior and senior year practicum placements for students in the Family and Social Systems Program and a placement for Career Center Interns winter, spring and summer terms. Contact each of these programs for information on how to apply for a placement at DYS. Other undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Oregon get practicum or internship credit through their departments, particularly Psychology, Sociology and Planning, Public Policy and Management and through the ESCAPE/Community Internship Program.

DYS is a placement site for the Lane Community College Cooperative Education Program. Contact Trisha Hahn, 747-4501, ext. 2395, for additional information and application forms. The Detention groupworker and the DYS Education Center tutor positions are eligible as placements under Lane Community College Work Study Program.

DYS has had graduate student interns from Northwest Christian College Marriage and Family Therapy program, the George Fox College Marriage and Family Therapy program, Portland State University Master in Social Work program and Western Oregon State College Criminal Justice program. Contact your advisor about credit or the volunteer program about possible placements at DYS.

DYS staff include many counselors with masters degrees who are eligible to supervise students for credits.

If you have any questions about the possibility of college credit for your placement at DYS, please contact, Volunteer Program at (541)682-4700.
