General Information
The Lane County Public Health (LCPH) department operates under Health and Human Services of Lane County. LCPH oversees the following programs and services: Communicable Disease, Emergency Preparedness & Response, Environmental Health, HIV & Hepatitis Prevention, Immunization Clinic, Maternal & Child Health, Physical Activity & Nutrition, STD Clinic, Tobacco Prevention & Education and the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Supplement Program.

Public health is based on science and focuses on population groups rather than on the individual. It emphasizes preventing illness and injury rather than treating a medical condition that has already occurred.

Public Health in General
Public health is carried out through a system of federal, state and local agencies, private organizations and other key partners. The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) sets public health policy and provides administrative and technical assistance to LCPH and other local partners who deliver services for Lane County residents.  LCPH is an integral piece of the Nation’s overall Public Health system.
