Lane County has hired Marsha Edwards as its new Human Resources Director. The hire comes after an extensive nation-wide search for qualified candidates, as well as a series of interviews and a candidate reception that included various members of the community, elected officials, staff and labor leaders.
“Marsha brings great experience, leadership and energy to our organization and community,” said Steve Mokrohisky, Lane County Administrator. “She exemplifies our standard for objectivity, accountability and integrity. Marsha will be an important part of our efforts to engage the community and continue to improve the services we provide.”
Edwards comes to Lane County from the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District where she currently serves as Vice Chancellor of Human Resources. A native Oregonian, Edwards brings more than 21 years of human resources experience to her new role. Previously, Edwards served as the Dean of Human Resources at Clackamas Community College, the Director of Human Resources at Linn-Benton Community College, and as a Human Resources Coordinator with the City of Portland. She has a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management and is a graduate of Oregon State University. She has served as the Equal Opportunity Officer and Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
“I’m so excited to be joining the great team in Lane County. For me, this is a homecoming. I was born in Oregon, grew up in Oregon, raised my family in Oregon and now I'm coming home to family and friends,” said Edwards. “I am impressed by the quality leadership, high performing staff and community partners who are dedicated to serving the residents of Lane County and making positive change.”
Edwards will begin her leadership role with Lane County on June 25, 2014. The Human Resources Director has been filled on an interim basis by Howard Schussler, who will return to his previous duties with Lane County Public Works.
