Furlough Day/Memorial Day Closures

The Memorial Day Weekend will be extended one day, for some, due to the state furlough day on Friday, May 25.  That means Circuit Court offices will be closed.  (http://courts.oregon.gov/ODJ)  Due to Memorial Day, the next open court date is Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

Lane County Administration offices and the Lane County District Attorney’s office will be closed to the public, however the D.A.’s office will be open by phone.  Tuesday, May 29 Lane County District Attorney and  Administration offices will be open to the public, for business.

All Lane County Waste Management transfer sites will be closed Monday, May 28th, to observe Memorial Day. (http://www.lanecounty.org/Departments/PW/WMD/Pages/default.aspx)

Lane County Animal Services is also closed on Monday, Memorial Day.  However, as Animal Services Manager Rick Hammel says, “Because LCAS has Mondays off every week, observation of Memorial Day will take place on Tuesday, May 29 and we will reopen to the public on Wednesday.”  (http://www.lanecounty.org/Departments/HHS/LCAS/Pages/default.aspx)

Meanwhile, despite the rainy days leading into the weekend, the forecast is calling for sunny skies, and folks anxious to get out in the great outdoors, are apparently getting ready to enjoy the long holiday weekend.

Mike Russell, Parks Manager of Lane County Parks says, “We are booked up for this weekend and are having to turn people away.  We are expecting a huge weekend to start the camping season!”

Memorial Day Weekend is the traditional start of the summer camping season, although at some locations, camping season started the weekend of April 13.  The first day of summer is June 20.

According to Russell, “All four of the popular, close-in Lane County campgrounds: Harbor Vista (3 miles north of Florence), Richardson (at Fern Ridge reservoir), Armitage (South of Coburg) , and Baker Bay (at Dorena Reservoir) all have reservations booked for the weekend.  There are some available spaces at Baker Bay, but only for Friday night but most folks want to stay for more than one night.”
