Today, Lane County Administrator Steve Mokrohisky announced that former Eugene 4J School District Superintendent George Russell will return to Lane County on August 11, 2014 as the interim Director of Management Services.
“We are building a fantastic team in Lane County. George brings more than 40 years of leadership experience, well-deserved respect and the highest degree of integrity to our organization,” said Mokrohisky. “George will be an important voice in our efforts to identify solutions and continually improve services.”
In his new role, Russell will oversee the Finance and County Clerk functions. The County Clerk is responsible for marriage licenses, elections, deeds and records. Financial Services is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the County, including accounting, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, and investments. Russell will serve as a County employee on an interim basis for approximately six to eight months.
“I am excited to be back working for Lane County, and to work with this leadership team. We have an opportunity to bring forward new ideas and concepts that will continue to improve the quality of the organization and its impact on our community,” said Russell.
Prior to joining the 4J School District, Russell served as Lane County’s Human Resources and Management Services Director from 1991 to 1995. He was hired by 4J in 1995 as the Executive Director of Human Resources, and in 1998 he became interim superintendent before being hired to fill the position permanently. Russell retired from the 4J School District in 2011. He has continued to be a national leader as an advisor on management and education issues for other communities. He is a resident of Eugene.
