Have You Mailed Back Your Ballot?
Contact: Lane County Chief Deputy Clerk Annette Newingham, 682-4328
If you haven’t mailed back your ballot yet, Lane County Elections recommends that you do so by this Friday, May 16. After Friday, voters are urged to drop off their ballots at one of the many Official Drop Locations listed in the insert included with your ballot or listed on the following website: http://www.co.lane.or.us/Elections/DropOff.htm
Important! All voted ballots must be received by 8 p.m. Election Day, May 20, 2008 for your ballot to be counted. Postmarks do not qualify your ballot.
There are several common errors voters make when they return their ballots which could prevent their ballot from being counted, so be careful to follow the directions and avoid these pitfalls:
Don’t forget to sign the return identification envelope, making sure you are signing your envelope and not someone else’s in your household. Lane County Elections cannot count the ballot if returned with the wrong person’s envelope.
Don’t print your name or initial on the oath, unless that is your regular signature used on your voter registration card. Remember, all signatures on the return envelope have to be matched to the voter registration card in order to be counted, which needs to be your regular signature. (Voters will receive written notification if the signatures do not match and should respond promptly. It is never a good idea to not respond..)
Be sure to seal the envelopes before returned the ballot.
If there are any questions or concerns, it is extremely important to promptly call Lane County Elections for assistance prior to returning the voted ballot to ensure the right steps are taken for a given problem. It may be too late to resolve once a ballot is returned.
If you have not received a ballot for the current election but believe you were previously registered anywhere within Oregon, you likely have time to update your registration to your current address and still qualify for a full ballot. If any questions about your voter registration status, call Lane County Elections at 541-682-4234.
Lane County Elections is located at 275 W. 10th Avenue, on the corner of 10th and Lincoln in downtown Eugene. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Election Day, May 20, 2008 the office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Voters should anticipate longer lines at the elections office the Monday before and through Election Day, so are urged to resolve any voter registration or ballot voting matters as timely as possible.
