Board Appoints New County Counsel

The Lane County Board of Commissioners has appointed a new County Counsel.

Liane Richardson was selected from a recruitment effort that resulted in six finalists. Top candidates were interviewed August 18 and 19.

This position serves at the pleasure of the Board and reports directly to them. After interviews and deliberation, the Board tapped Richardson – the number one candidate after completion of the County’s selection process.

"We believe Ms. Richardson has the experience and enthusiasm that will serve this organization well," said Board Chair Faye Stewart. "We are very fortunate to have her on our team."

Richardson was hired by the County in 2007 and currently serves as Lane County’s senior litigator. Her experience includes a supervisory position as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Oregon, service as the City Prosecutor for the City of Eugene where she established and ran the internal City Prosecutor’s Office, and service as Chief Deputy for Benton County’s District Attorney.

Richardson’s accomplishments include DUII Prosecutor of the Year in 2000, Pacific Program graduate, admission to practice in all Oregon state courts, Oregon District Court and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. She has an undergraduate degree in Sociology and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oregon.

Richardson began her position as County Counsel effective Monday, Sept. 8. Salary is set at $104,471. The Board will conduct a performance evaluation six months from Richardson’s appointment.

Richardson replaces Teresa Wilson, who has served Lane County for nearly 31 years.
