Newest Version of Lane County Road Maintenance Atlas a Winner
Contact: Brian Mladenich, Public Works GIS manager, 682-6950
Lane County Public Works 2008 Road Maintenance Atlas recently won second place in the Best Cartographic Design – Map Series or Atlas category at the 28th annual Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc. (ESRI) International User Conference in San Diego, California. The conference was attended by more than 14,000 people.
The atlas contains 69 pages of 17"x11" maps illustrating the 1,444 miles of roads that Lane County Public Works maintains. The primary focus of the atlas is to portray these roads along with information about the roads such as functional class, milepost locations, bridges, address ranges, road names and Public Works assigned road identification numbers.
The 2008 Lane County Road Maintenance Atlas can be purchased for $35 at http://ecomm.lanecounty.org/Store or in-person at 3040 North Delta Highway, Eugene, OR. Fees for the atlas pay for printing costs.
Public Works Transportation Planning & Traffic GIS staff was primarily responsible for the updated atlas along with assistance from Information Service staff.
"We are very pleased to be able to produce such a high quality atlas. It represents a lot of great work by our county staff," said Brian Mladenich, Public Works GIS manager. "I think what makes our atlas unique compared to others is that we included milepost information which is something you usually don't see in other atlases."
This is not the first time Lane County’s atlas has been singled out for recognition. The 2005 version of the Road Maintenance Atlas won "Best Map Representation" in the Transportation/Facilities Management category at the 20th annual Northwest Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Users Group Conference in Sunriver, OR.
