Lane County Emergency Management advises residents living along the Mohawk and Siuslaw rivers to prepare for potential overnight flooding.

After a call with the National Weather Service and reports from the field, Emergency Manager Linda Cook has determined that the weather conditions are unpredictable enough to require residents to act in an excess of caution and advises residents to take precautionary measures before nightfall.

  • If you think you may be trapped in your home by rising waters, evacuate or plan to shelter in place.  If you evacuate, seek shelter with friends, family or a hotel.
  • Make sure your sump pump is working and have a battery-operated back-up in the event of power failure.
  • Clear debris from gutters and downspouts.
  • Anchor any fuel tanks.
  • Move valuables and important documents to a safe place.
  • Consider any special needs for your family and plan ahead.
  • Evaluate your pets’ and livestock’s needs and plan accordingly for their safety.
  • Beware of the life-threatening danger of driving through water on roadways.  It only takes a few inches of water for a vehicle to be swept away.
  • Check your local hardware store for sandbags and sand if needed to protect vulnerable areas on your property.
