Impounded Vehicle Release

To have a vehicle released from impound, the following must be provided:


  • Proof of ownership, such as a title or registration;
  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) “Registration Transaction Submitted” forms will only be accepted if they bear the DMV stamp.        

  • Proof of current insurance on the impounded vehicle;
  • Valid driver’s license. If you do not have a valid license, you must bring a valid driver with you; and, 
  • The current administrative fee (see Fee Schedule).
  • General recorded information - 541-682-4158. 

The administrative fee does not include any incurred towing or storage charges, which are the responsibility of the vehicle owner and will be collected by the tow yard.

Central Reception, located within the Sheriff’s Office, is responsible for releasing the impounded vehicle, at 125 E. 8th Avenue, Room 140, Eugene, Oregon. Lobby hours are 9 a.m. – 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays.  Telephone hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding legal holidays. Customers are assisted on a first come, first serve basis, so a wait time is possible.  541-682-4156.
          
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is only responsible for vehicles impounded by a Lane County deputy. For all other vehicles, the pink impound sheet given at the time of a traffic stop will provide information as to which law enforcement agency should be contacted regarding an impounded vehicle.
