What should employees know if they have been exposed to a COVID-19 case or have symptoms?

What should an employee do if they have close contact* with a person with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 and do not have symptoms?

Following consultation and investigation by Public Health, if it’s
determined that someone has been exposed, the employee should not be in the workplace for 14 days after the employee’s last contact with the confirmed case. The employee may use leave options or telework when feasible or as directed by a manager.

What should an employee do if they have had close contact* with a person with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 and the employee has symptoms?

The employee is encouraged to follow the advice of their healthcare provider and any guidance issued by Public Health. The employee should not be in the workplace for at least 7 days from the onset of symptoms or 3 days after symptoms have cleared, whichever is longer. The employee may use leave options or telework when feasible or as directed by a manager.

What is the County's recommendation to staff who are sick with fever and when it is appropriate to return to work?

The employee is encouraged to follow the advice of their healthcare provider and any guidance issued by Public Health. The employee should not be in the workplace for at least 7 days from the onset of symptoms or 72 hours after symptoms have cleared, whichever is longer. The employee may use leave options or telework when feasible or as directed by a manager. Staff may be asked to go home if they are exhibiting these symptoms at work.

*Close contact is defined at within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes.
