Holidays & COVID-19 Risk

As we plan for fall and winter holiday celebrations, Lane County Public Health offers the following considerations to help protect individuals, their families, friends, and our community from COVID-19. 

When planning to host a holiday celebration, you should assess current COVID-19 levels to determine whether to postpone, cancel, or limit the number of attendees.

Halloween Activities Flyer

HALLOWEEN - Low Risk Activities

  • Activities with members of your household
    • Carving/decorating pumpkins
    • Movie night
    • Trying Pinterest Halloween crafts, baking or cooking
    • Decorating!
    • Halloween scavenger hunts
    • Halloween Piñata
  • Virtual Activities 
    • Halloween costume contest
    • Halloween scavenger hunts
    • Watch parties

HALLOWEEN - Moderate Risk Activities

  • Small Group Activities that can be done outside where physical distance can be maintained and face coverings worn. 
    • Costume Parade
    • Carving/Decorating Pumpkins
    • Outdoor Movie Night
  • Open-air Halloween/Fall Attractions where appropriate face covering use is enforced and people can remain more than 6 feet apart. 
    • Walk-through haunted forest
    • Pumpkin patches or Orchards
    • Walking tour of decorated houses
  • One-way trick-or-treating 
    • Individually wrapped goodie bags are lined up for families to grab and go while continuing to physically distance such as at the end of a driveway or at the edge of a yard.
    • If you are preparing goodie bags, wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before preparing the bags.

HALLOWEEN - High Risk Activities

  • Traditional trick-or-treating or Trunk-or-treat
    • Treats are handed to children who go door to door
    • Treats are handed out from trunks of cars lined up in parking lots.  

  • Indoor Group Activities
    • Costume parties where face coverings are worn and the number of people are limited
    • Haunted houses where face coverings are worn and physical distancing is maintained.

  • Outdoor Activities where physical distance cannot be maintained – High Risk
    • Hayrides or tractor rides with people who are not in your household where face coverings are worn
