Major League Baseball (MLB) is requiring minor league teams to begin operating from facilities that meet a new, higher level of standards. Due to the MLB requirements, the Eugene Emeralds (Ems) are in need of a new home.
Lane County was approached by the Ems nearly two years ago as a possible partner in creating a new home for the team. We have been working with the Ems and other community partners to evaluate whether building a multi-use stadium at the Lane Events Center is feasible.
Current status.
As you are likely aware, a funding measure placed before Eugene voters was unsuccessful. The measure would have provided, in lieu of a direct contribution from the City of Eugene, $15 million in funding. You can view the certified election results online.
The measure's failure, along with a significant funding shortfall, means the project is no longer viable. The Ems have also stated publicly their intent to move on from the project.
Now that a multi-use center is no longer being considered, Lane County is resuming the overall master planning process for the Lane Events Center property. An updated master plan will help guide investment in the property for the next 10 to 20 years and help us prioritize infrastructure updates.
If you would like to be notified of opportunities to give input on the master plan, please sign up to receive updates.
