Under Oregon law, armed forces Veterans may be eligible for preference in employment or promotion. If you think you may qualify, please read the following information carefully.
Please Remember:
• 5 (five) points may be awarded to eligible veterans; or
• 10 (ten) points may be awarded to eligible disabled veterans.
• You must submit the required documentation for each recruitment for which you are claiming veterans’ preference, even if you have submitted documentation previously.
• If we do not receive the necessary information as described on this form, we will NOT be able to grant you veteran points/preference you request.

Qualified Veteran
(ORS 408.225 (1)(e):
You may claim veteran preference if you meet at least one of the criteria below and provide proof of eligibility by submitting a copy of your DD214 or 215 (long form / Member Copy-4) that reflects your honorable separation status. Preference will not be applied unless you submit the appropriate documentation by two business days after the closing date.
To receive 5 points you must have served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States:
• For a period of more than 90 consecutive days beginning on or before January 31, 1955; or
• For a period of more than 178 consecutive days beginning on or after January 31, 1955; or
• For 178 days or less and have a disability rating from the US Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs; or
• For at least one day in a combat zone; or
• I received a combat or campaign ribbon or an expeditionary medal for services in the Armed Forces of the United States; or
• I receive a non-service connected pension from the United States Department of Veteran Affairs.
To qualify under any of the above, you must have been discharged or released under honorable conditions.
Please Note: "active duty" does not include attendance at a school under military orders, except schooling incident to an active enlistment or a regular tour of duty, or normal military training as a reserve officer or member of an organized reserve or a National Guard unit.
Qualified Disabled Veteran (ORS 408.225 (1)(c):
You may claim preference as disabled veteran if you meet at least one of the criteria below and provide proof of eligibility by submitting a copy of your DD-214 or 215 (long form / Member Copy-4) that reflects your honorable separation status and a public employment preference letter from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (unless the information is already included in the federal DD Form 214/215). Preference will not be applied unless you submit the appropriate documentation by two business days after the closing date.
• I am entitled to disability compensation under laws administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs; or
• I was discharged or released from active duty for a disability incurred or aggravated in the line of active duty; or
• I was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat.
Lane County Human Resources Department must receive required documentation within two business days after the posting close date.
