Community Plastics Collection

Community Plastics Program Coming to a Close

Since 2018, Lane County Waste Management has offered plastic collection for #2, #4, #5 plastics to "registered" community collectors. These collectors and their many volunteers have helped divert more than 111,000 pounds of plastics (that would have otherwise been tossed in the garbage) from the the landfill.
Now, as the new Oregon Recycling Modernization Act takes effect on July 1, the Community Plastics Collection program will end at 1 p.m. on July 7. Collectors can bring in items before July 7 that will not be accepted as part of the new commingled recycling changes, including:
#5 clamshells • #5 beverage cups & lids • Plastic lids • Prescription medicine bottles & lids • Small #2 bottles, under 2” • Tofu containers
If you collect from friends, family, neighbors, etc., please let them know to bring in these items before the program shuts down and make your last appointment date before July 7.
We will stop sending referrals for plastic collection by June 3, and the Community Plastics Program website will be updated with information and flyers about commingling updates.
Email your questions, comments and concerns to [email protected] Thank you to all who made the program possible!

Lane County Waste Management offers plastic collection for #2, #4, #5 plastics to "registered" community collectors. Only #2, #4, and #5 tubs, bottles and jugs are accepted. Items must be stamped and presorted by both shape and number. Items must be clean and dry.

NEW (Nov. 2023):
Labels no longer need to be removed with the exception of prescription bottles. All labels must be removed from prescriptions for security and privacy reasons.

To find a volunteer community collector near you, please email [email protected] with your name and complete address, including zip code.

If you are interested in becoming a registered community collector, please email plasticscollection@lanecountyor.gov with your name, address and phone number. New community collectors attend a 20-minute orientation at Glenwood Transfer Station. Orientation is by appointment and is limited to two (2) persons at a time.

Thank you to our sponsors Camas Country Mill and Mountain Rose Herbs for providing bags to the program. We couldn't do it without your generous support.
